"Most of us only find our own voices after we've sounded like a lot of other people. But the one thing that you have that nobody else has is you."

- Neil Gaiman

From October's edition of the Writing Magazine which any serious writer probably should subscribe to. Especially if u're up-n-coming.

"Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn."

- Gore Vidal

In a recent entry, I addressed the Writers or wanna-be-writers that THINK they have this great big barrier called a j-o-b in the way. That includes myself.

Finding one's voice is a matter of priority for any writer that is intent on making a profession out of scribbling words. I've heard/read many tips but I think the best ones are:

Read alot
Watch out for cliches
Be brave

Gormandize. Feed on others' past work. By reading a vast number of books you increase your vocabulary, you become familiar with…

Yesterday, as part of this three-month journey of ferrocious study to get ontop of my knowledge of Banking and Finance, I stumbled upon Binary Options trading. It is gambling, which in many respects most trading on the financial market strikes me as. But it is also a skill and is governed by rules. It's like Commodity or ForEx Trading but simpler. Probably just as profitable but with less danger of massive losses. In a nutshell, you look at the Fundamentals - that's financial news that may affect the product you're trading, then you state whether its value goes up or down i.e. you put in…

“The only metrics that entrepreneurs should invest energy in collecting are those that help them make decisions.”

- Eric Ries

Eric Ries is basically the Lean Start up pioneer. I think this quote is very pertinent for most of us trying to do our "own thing". Let me tell yer, do your research. Make sure you have a market. That it's new and useful.  Your start up (and this applies to even creative pursuits) should be fresh or at least lend a new solution that either solves a problem quicker or more efficiently, teaches something new or entertains in a new way. Otherwise, your project is…

"There are no big problems. There are only a lot of little problems."

- Henry Ford

Everytime I find myself neck-deep in a shithole with my nostrils hovering over the sewage landscape, I - like most humans - reflect. How the hell did I get myself into this situation? Usually, there isn't just one answer. It's a series of little and possibly big steps that have brought me to this point. I may solve the big ones but if I don't address the small ones, then I'm going to continue to be in this mess or I'll be right where I started soon enough. Self-destructive…

"In order to create a world and populate it and make it real, we have to believe that we've got something amazing on our hands. We have to believe that we're amazing — at least for a moment. At least enough to attempt this incredibly difficult thing. "

-  N. K. Jemisin

November is significant not only because this is the month when men in England, lose their minds and trimmers and allow their beards to run wild in a show of unbridled masculinity, but it is also NaNoWriMo! National Novel Writing Month.

Many 9to5 Escape Artists are creative (hence why they want to escape the shackles of bureaucracy that comes with…

Spotted on a Church marquee:

"Give God a tithe in proportion to thine income, lest He be displeased with thee and give thee an income in proportion to thy tithe."

I've been thinking about the subject of tithing alot of late. Then received four emails from that wonderful organisation that provides daily devotional wisdom: UCB. For those of you that don't believe in a christian God, somewhat believe or have a completely different belief system. I will stress that GIVING is key. Many thought leaders believe this even if they're middle-of-the-road minded agnostics (forget the ballsout atheists; not much hope for dem lot :o).

What does tithing mean…

“I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick arse.”

- Maya Angelou

Not just a quote for the girls. We boys appreciate being reminded. Grab that bitch by the hair, drag and shape Life into what you want it to be.

You're the pimp. Don't let it pimp you.

It's okay to have a job IF you love it. If you don't… Well, 40hrs plus, a week, is a lot of time to spend on something you have no other vested interest in than a paycheck.
